Kathy Foltz
Biography
After earning a BS in Biological Sciences at Bowling Green State University (Ohio), Kathy Foltz pursued her PhD at Purdue University (1985-1989), where she worked with Dr. David Asai on the cell biology and biochemistry of microtubule based motility. She then pursued postdoctoral research as an NRSA-NIH Postdoctoral Scholar at the State University of New York-Stony Brook with Dr. William Lennarz, studying the molecular basis of gamete recognition in echinoderms. Dr. Foltz joined the faculty in the Department of MCD Biology at UCSB in 1993. She is also affiliated with the Biology Program in the College of Creative Studies and with the Marine Science Institute. Professor Foltz is particularly interested in maximizing access to undergraduate research for first generation and under served groups as well as developing and implementing effective active learning strategies in large upper division courses. She is a member of the steering committee for the UCSB Center for Innovative Teaching Research and Learning (CITRAL).
