Adrienne Williams
Biography
I taught full-time as a biology adjunct for several years, which allowed me to try multiple teaching techniques and see which maximized student interest and my own engagement in teaching. In 2006 I career-changed to biology education research as Co-Director of the HHMI-UCI Professor Program. I founded an "in-situ" TA training program that focused on active learning in discussion sections, and I learned how to conduct biology education research. My current research interests are improving teaching and learning in large-lecture courses and using technology to improve learning in online and face-to-face courses. I flipped UCI's introductory biology class in 2012 and 2013, and taught a Preparation for Introductory Biology MOOC via Coursera in Summer 2013. I now work in faculty development and I am the Associate Director of the Teaching and Learning Research Center.
